Hello Guys, it’s your girl Blondie signing in,
Now that we have familiarize ourselves with cocaine existence. Let’s explore why this drug is so intoxicating, and how does its power over come us. My daughter hates it when I say I’m a recovery addict. She feels because I haven’t used cocaine in 23 years that I’m cured. Unfortunately addiction doesn’t work that way. If you don’t follow the 12 steps rules of Narcotic Anonymous there’s a good chance you will relapse. Here’s why. According to YouTube station Demystifying Medicine McMaster, Cocaine is an addictive stimulated drug which means it increases energy and alertness. It is often used as a recreational drug and causes short term effects:
1. Lose of touch with reality
2. Intense feeling of happiness
3. Sweating
4. Dilated Pupils
5. Agitation
6. Increase heart rate and body temperature
You may be asking how this effects your brain. There’s a part of your brain called Ventral Tegmentum that releases dopamine a part of the reward system that allows you to feel pleasure and euphoria. You will start to feel energized, alert and happy. Unfortunately these feelings are temporary. The time is 5 to 90 minutes until your dopamine levels start to decrease, at which point you start to feel irritable, paranoid, restless and apathetic. You then start to feel extreme depressive symptoms, and since it takes a while for dopamine levels to normalize again during that time period individuals will use cocaine over and over again to continue to feel good. This is why the drug is so addictive. The addiction is what causes you to do mostly anything to get that feeling again. I’m sure there are some individuals who can relate to these symptoms. I was addicted to this drug for 10 years, and I’m telling you the last five years of my addictions was a nightmare. I desired nothing but coke, all day and all night.
